Whew! It’s been a couple of years hasn’t it? In that time, I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from Sword and just returned more regularly a few months ago into a lot of changes. Including: 8.5.2! Yes, this brings along a new UPC with a promise of more in the upcoming updates.
While it seems to be an easy quest, I’ve seen that many people are wondering how to proceed to this point.
First: You absolutely must complete all of the Viron quests and everything beforehand. This includes getting Catherine Torche, the 5 Elemental Ottite and the Viron Clocktower quest.

Quest List to be completed first:
- Red Sunset Forest
- The Baron Dominion Family
- The Devil and the Alchemist
- Lionel and the Militia
- Black and White
- Viron Clocktower
Otherwise, the first quest that starts it off is:
Lionel’s Request:
NPC: Lionel
Place: Viron
Reward: Unknown
This can be triggered once finishing the Black or White quest and leaving then returning to Viron. The rewards for this quest are ‘none’, leading into the second quest, which requires a trip (or multiple trips) to the Viron Clocktower which we all know as CT. If you need to know where he is, then warp to the Central Government square within Viron.
Clocktower Investigation:

Place: Viron Clocktower
Reward: Unknown
Once within the Clocktower, you will always have to defeat the First Floor boss before proceeding to the next floor or by using a key to the 7th floor. Yes, Candelgeister is a 7th floor boss. Its counterpart Steamgeister is on the 8th floor.
A few hints about the Clocktower:
Ranged is key here. This includes basic Musketeers, Elementals and various UPC counterparts: Calypso, Helena, Lionel, Raven to mention a few that I’ve seen in various runs.

Steamgeister - 8th Floor
On the 8th floor, you will need 2 tanks. Why? Because your team will need to split in two. This is also why there are two squadrons from the beginning. The bottom floor will get the kill for Steam, always.Good tactics/Observations:
- To have the entire first group to be squadded together. This includes the 7th floor as not both squads will get the kill for Candle
- Either run this floor twice or ensure that the second squad already has this requirement (they have Lionel, only need the 7th floor or no interest in getting the UPC. What? It does happen!).
- 8th floor boss must be kept in the center of the room or else his HP will re-gen.
Candelgeister's Stats
The rewards here include an Honor Card B and Damaged Ancient Polish when you return to speak with Lionel.

Just talk to him. Really. You’ll have an interesting conversation that won’t make you like the Commander any more. But it is amusing, to say the least.

Ultimately, you will get his card and all is well… until reaching expert and need his stance book. This can only be obtained from Letzia Boxes (Farmed in the Viron region) or by completing the highest floor in the Clocktower.
Additionally, you may want to read the text carefully. Lionel apparently has a sister. Not that it means anything, but it did make the quest interesting to end on such a note.
